{"id":3965,"date":"2019-04-12T16:35:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-12T21:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/?p=3965"},"modified":"2020-02-16T16:36:03","modified_gmt":"2020-02-16T22:36:03","slug":"vsphere-ent-robo-and-vsan-robo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/vsphere-ent-robo-and-vsan-robo\/","title":{"rendered":"vSphere Enterprise ROBO \u2013 Even better for vSAN ROBO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>vSphere and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/products\/vsan.html?int_cid=70134000001CaZU&amp;src=WWW_us_VMW_GxmkZKW3n1v2fA8MjCJd\">vSAN<\/a> now have more flexibility in ROBO use cases.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, vSphere 6.7 Update 2 was <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.vmware.com\/vsphere\/2019\/04\/announcing-vsphere-6-7-update-2-vsphere-platinum-updates-and-vsphere-robo-enterprise.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>ROBO Licensing Considerations<\/h3>\n<p>Remember that vSAN licensing is separate from vSphere licensing.<\/p>\n<p>When deciding which licensing option to use for Remote Office\/Branch Office locations several items must be considered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of virtual machines<\/li>\n<li>Number of sites<\/li>\n<li>Features needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When vSAN ROBO editions initially aligned with the available vSphere ROBO editions. There were only Standard and Advanced editions.<\/p>\n<p>With the release of vSphere 6.5 Update 1 (vSAN 6.6.1) we also added a vSAN Enterprise for ROBO licensing option.<\/p>\n<p>vSAN ROBO licenses can be used with any valid vSphere license.<\/p>\n<p>Customers that wanted to use the added benefit of Distributed Resource Scheduling (DRS) would often combine a vSAN ROBO license with vSphere Enterprise+ license.<\/p>\n<h3>DRS for Maintenance Mode<\/h3>\n<p>With the introduction of vSphere 6.7 Update 2, the vSphere Enterprise for ROBO license has been added.
