{"id":276,"date":"2009-08-11T16:30:46","date_gmt":"2009-08-11T21:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/?p=276"},"modified":"2009-08-11T16:30:46","modified_gmt":"2009-08-11T21:30:46","slug":"my-test-rig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/my-test-rig\/","title":{"rendered":"My Test Rig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been asked a couple times why type of system I use at home to test VMware VI3\/vSphere configurations.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a quick rundown of my Test Rig:<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>System: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Dell XPS 720<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Processor: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Intel Q6600 (2.4GHz Quad Core w\/VT enabled)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Memory: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>8GB (Max supported)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Internal Drives: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>4 Seagate 500GB with 2 500GB RAID 1 Mirrors (onboard RAID)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>External Drives: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>2 Seagate 250GB in a Rosewill USB\/eSATA enclosure in RAID 1<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Operating System: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Window Vista Ultimate x64 SP2<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Virtualization Layer: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td>VMware Workstation (can&#8217;t tell which version)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>iSCSI Storage:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><a title=\"Starwind iSCSI SAN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.starwindsoftware.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Starwind iSCSI SAN<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Pretty much anything I need to test, configure, or reference I can perform on this single box.<\/p>\n<p>I used to run VMware Workstation 6.5x, but am now running a different version.<\/p>\n<p>It just goes to show that not a lot of hardware can go a long way.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m planning on moving to Windows 7 before too long.\u00a0 From what I have seen, I should get a decent performance boost.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have been asked a couple times why type of system I use at home to test VMware VI3\/vSphere configurations.
