{"id":222,"date":"2009-06-05T11:00:39","date_gmt":"2009-06-05T18:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/?p=222"},"modified":"2009-06-05T11:00:39","modified_gmt":"2009-06-05T18:00:39","slug":"and-the-winner-is","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/and-the-winner-is\/","title":{"rendered":"And the winner is&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just saw an article about how XenServer (free) has <em>replaced<\/em> VMware in many environments.\u00a0 The article specifically says that 30% of the XenServer downloads came from companies (or users) that have VMware.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a link to the article: <a title=\"XenServer freebie wins over VMware stalwarts \" href=\"http:\/\/www.channelweb.co.uk\/crn\/news\/2243603\/xenserver-freebie-wins-vmware-4694813\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.channelweb.co.uk\/crn\/news\/2243603\/xenserver-freebie-wins-vmware-4694813<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m not sure how the math works out there&#8230;\u00a0 I will tell anyone that I was chomping at the bit to download XenServer when it became free.\u00a0 I use VMware at several of my positions.\u00a0 But because I downloaded it, does that mean that I use it?\u00a0 The above mentioned article seems to make that case.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time this has happened.\u00a0 In fact, Virtualization.info detailed a similar situation here: <a title=\"Gartner updates market share reports, numbers don\u2019t match the IDC estimates\" href=\"http:\/\/www.virtualization.info\/2008\/10\/gartner-updates-market-share-reports.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.virtualization.info\/2008\/10\/gartner-updates-market-share-reports.html<\/a>, where the IDC and Gartner didn&#8217;t exactly agree on information gathered about which hypervisor has more market share.\u00a0 Here is another look into that whole situation: <a title=\"Microsoft already took 23% of virtualization market says IDC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.virtualization.info\/2008\/10\/microsoft-already-took-23-of.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.virtualization.info\/2008\/10\/microsoft-already-took-23-of.html<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So who is right?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is everyone using VMware?\u00a0 I am sure they are not.<\/li>\n<li>Is everyone using Citrix? Same answer.<\/li>\n<li>Is everyone using HyperV?
