{"id":1091,"date":"2010-10-08T08:40:38","date_gmt":"2010-10-08T13:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/?p=1091"},"modified":"2010-10-08T08:40:38","modified_gmt":"2010-10-08T13:40:38","slug":"unsolicited-remote-assistance-windows-vista7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/unsolicited-remote-assistance-windows-vista7\/","title":{"rendered":"Unsolicited Remote Assistance &#8211; Windows Vista\/7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several years ago, I came across the need to leverage Windows XP&#8217;s Remote Assistance feature.<\/p>\n<p>I came across a way, in XP, to do this without requiring any interaction from the end user.\u00a0 You can find that post here: <strong><a title=\"Windows: Unsolicited Remote Assistance\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/?p=91\" target=\"_self\">Windows: Unsolicited Remote Assistance<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Windows XP, loading the following URL (<strong><a href=\"hcp:\/\/CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US\/Remote%20Assistance\/Escalation\/unsolicited\/unsolicitedrcui.htm\">hcp:\/\/CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US\/Remote%20Assistance\/Escalation\/unsolicited\/unsolicitedrcui.htm<\/a><\/strong>) will present a dialog box allowing the connection to another Windows XP system.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1092\" title=\"Unsolicited Remote Assistance\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/uploaded_images\/ura-750951.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"223\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have spent quite a bit of time out of the desktop support side of  things, and recently came across a situation where I needed to do the  same thing.\u00a0 The difference now, is that my everyday OS is Windows 7  Enterprise x64, not Windows XP.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft decided to depreciate  the Help and Support Service in Windows Vista.\u00a0 As a result, it is not  in Windows 7.\u00a0 The Help and Support Service was the core of Remote  Assistance in Windows XP.<\/p>\n<p>In Windows Vista\/7, to launch Windows Remote Assistance, Click on <strong>Start<\/strong>, <strong>All Programs<\/strong>, <strong>Maintenance<\/strong>, and then <strong>Windows Remote Assistance<\/strong>.\u00a0 But if you want to connect to a target system in an unsolicited fashion, there is an easier way.<\/p>\n<p>From the search bar, or a run box, type <strong>msra \/?<\/strong> to get a full list of options.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MSRA.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1092\" title=\"MSRA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jasemccarty.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MSRA-300x284.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"284\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So a quick\/easy way to connect to another system would be running the following command: <strong>msra.exe \/offerRA {IP\/Computername}<\/strong>. Wow, quite a bit easier than with Windows XP.\u00a0 And I never have to touch the mouse to get started.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, GPO settings can allow\/disallow Windows Remote Assistance.\u00a0 If you plan on using Windows Remote Assistance, make sure your GPOs allow it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several years ago, I came across the need to leverage Windows XP&#8217;s Remote Assistance feature.
